70 percent of Health Plan Alliance members are already "highly engaged"―The top five ways these organizations are making the most of their membership

Health Plan Alliance

09/18/2017

The Health Plan Alliance is a national organization that brings provider-sponsored and independently-owned health plans together with their health system and provider group leaders for unparalleled peer-to-peer collaboration. Alliance member health plans are well represented across various stages of development and all lines of business with an emphasis on Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial. For more than 20 years, Health Plan Alliance members have leveraged the collective knowledge of the Alliance community to enhance their business acumen and advance the quality of health care delivery in their communities.

To support its members in maximizing the value they receive from their membership, the Alliance tracks each organization’s participation. It is the goal of the Alliance for all of its members to be "highly engaged" each year. The Alliance leadership team works closely with each of its members to ensure their organization is making use of the resources available to them through their membership. The following is a list of the top five ways Alliance members are making the most of their membership in 2017.

Top five ways Alliance members are making the most of their membership:

Value Visits and Fly-ins
Alliance members came together to share case studies and best practices on eight topics so far in 2017: risk adjustment, leadership, ASO opportunities, payer-provider collaboration, quality, Medicare, Medicaid (social determinants of health), and risk management and cybersecurity. There are three events remaining in 2017 for members to attend. Members can also access all the event presentations and podcasts from the documents tab on the event pages.

Value Calls and vendor spotlight webinars
This year, members have participated in more than 75 Value Calls and vendor spotlight webinars. There are many ways members can find events on the topics they care about most:

CEO workshops, meetings and tools
At the June Health system/Health Plan Value Visit, CEOs participated in the Governance workshop. Beyond the annual CEO workshops and the Fall and Spring Leadership Value Visits, CEOs can also share ideas with one another privately through the Alliance CEO discussion forum and access CEO specific resources in the CEO private portal.

Discussion forum
One of Alliance members’ favorite tools for collaboration, the discussion forum allows members to ask questions to their peers in real-time. Members, who are subscribed to receive discussion forum emails, will receive an instant email alert with questions and responses related to the areas of interest they have selected in their Alliance profile. In 2017, members have already posted more than 1,200 questions and responses.

Coding work group

In its second year, the Alliance coding work group brings members together every six weeks to share and discuss coding best practices. So far this year, the coding work group has met seven times. Participants have collectively earned more than 854 CEUs from AAPC and 569 CEUs from AHIMA.

Other valueable member resources:

Knowledge Center
The Alliance knowledge center has more than 2,900 valuable member and industry generated resources including presentation slides, audio recordings, templates (job descriptions, org charts, RFPs, etc.), vendor brochures, and more. Last year, members contributed more than 300 resources to the knowledge center. Sharing resources is another way members can engage in the Alliance community. Resources shared can only be accessed by other Alliance members.

Strategic support
The Health Plan Alliance leadership team is available to provide support with executive and interim management searches; planning, facilitation or presentation support for a board or senior management meeting; or to serve as an outside board member.
