Overview

This call is one in a series designed for the Alliance coding work group. Each call is hosted by a health plan that will share a selection of charts with the group for feedback on risk adjustment coding best practices.

Process

To receive email communications about his event, make sure you have "risk adjustment" or "coding" selected as an area of interest and your are subscribed to receive emails regarding webinars in your profile.
Case study charts are shared at least two weeks in advance of the call (emailed to individuals who have selected risk adjustment or coding as an area of interest in their profile and posted to the document tab of the event page)
In advance, review the case study charts, complete the pre-call survey (link provided in document) indicating how you would code each case study. Be prepared to share how you would code it and your supporting documentation source, if applicable.
Register and participate in the call: During the call, the facilitator will share the pre-all survey results, ask for your feedback on how you would code the chart and why, then launch a post-discussion poll to assess the group’s final decision. NOTE: While it is the goal of the group to arrive at a resolution for each chart with referenced literature/materials substantiating the decision; occasionally there is no consensus due to unclear regulatory guidance or irreconcilable coding practices.
The recording of the call will be made available in the Alliance knowledge center and from the document tab of the event page.

Remaining time
Any remaining time during the call will be available for open discussion, which could be used to:

Review recent Alliance discussion forum conversations between coders
Review and highlight best practices, with additional clarification and discussion as needed
Explore potential inaccuracies and assign for follow-up discussion on the next call

Participant best practices

Host a pre-call meeting with other participants from your team: Review the case studies, discuss and complete the pre-call survey together
If possible, join the call together in a conference room: All lines are off-mute during the call; joining as a group will help reduce background noise (NOTE: To receive the CEU certificates log-on from desktop before you join your group OR have the individual who logged-in forward you the email with the CEU certificates)

Audience

Certified coders and managers with responsibility for the oversight of coders, as well as plan staff with responsibility for physician training around accurate and specific documentation related to coding.

AAPC and AHIMA CEUs

CEUs are currently pending approval from AAPC and AHIMA.

AAPC: This event has been approved by the AAPC for 1.5 CEUs.
AHIMA: The program has been approved for 1.5 continuing education unit(s) for use in fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Granting prior approval from AHIMA does not constitute endorsement of the program content or its program sponsor.
Only attendees to the live webinar event may earn these CEUs. The certificates will be sent to each attendee directly after they log into the event using the Individual Access Link provided by the Readytalk platform.

Ask your peers a question anytime through the discussion forum

You can visit the discussion forum and post a question anytime. It's only available to Alliance health plan members, so you question is private and secure. When submitting a question, you can select which interests your question is related to, such as "risk adjustment" or "coding". Individuals with those "areas of interest" selected in their profile and who are subscribed to discussion forum emails will receive your question. You can also add an attachment to your question or reply, making this tool another great resource for sharing best practices with your peers.
