Associate General Counsel

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reports to the Deputy General Counsel and serves as an internal legal resource for the corporation and its subsidiaries. Provide legal advice and counsel to administration, outside counsel and other attorneys within the organization.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Will provide legal and subject matter expert guidance to support the Office of General Counsel and its constituent functions.
• Understands and directly answers complex legal questions. Responsible for review and/or drafting complex contract language and contract negotiations particularly those related to contracts with various types of health care providers and subscribers, members and employer groups or government contracts.
• Serve as a resource for Federal, State, and Local legislative and regulatory related matters and may directly interact with state and federal agencies. Analyze legislative and regulatory requirements and assist business units in their implementation.
• High level interaction with senior management and all levels of corporate personnel to obtain information and provides counsel regarding sensitive and complex legal issues. Responsible for legal assistance in reviewing or drafting personnel policies and procedures, employee benefits and other related employer/employee functions, including providing advice and counsel on credentialing issues that arise with providers or potential providers.
• Independently manages complex projects and coordinates work assignments with the Associate General Counsels and above, to deliver timely results. Serves as a resource for management throughout the organization with respect to legal issues or concerns as they arise, including issues related to member services.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law by the bar of at least one state and/or the District of Columbia.
• Five years of experience in a multi-client law firm, health insurer, hospital, or similar organization.
• Five years of health care related legal experience
• Demonstrated experience in a law firm and/or in-house corporate law department required.
• Strong knowledge of litigation and corporate transaction practices. Ability to identify potential legal issues.
• Strong interpersonal, writing and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to interact with all levels of management.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and able to work independently and as a part of a team to prioritize responsibilities, take initiative and self-motivate/self-manage work and time.
