Provider-sponsored health plans: positioned to win the health insurance market shift

Deloitte’s Center for Health Solutions sought to understand how provider-sponsored plans have performed financially in recent times.  They analyzed the financial and market performance of provider-sponsored managed care organizations during 2012- 2014.

The analysis yielded 3 primary findings:

1. Provider-sponsored plans can be financially successful
   
   
2. Core line of business can influence profitability with MA and Medicaid-focues plans performing well.
   
   
3. Scale and tenure can boost profitability with many high performing plans having 100,000 or more members in their core line of business.
