The Alliance 2017 Educational Programming kicks off a new approach to content development

Health Plan Alliance

11/16/2016

The Alliance hosts around a dozen Value Visits and about 100 webinar broadcasts for our members annually. The selected topics are in response to guidance and feedback we receive from member representatives.

In 2016, we saw a change in engagement from our members: attendance patterns began to shift across learning channels and in specific topic areas. To better understand the drivers behind these changes, we conducted a member survey. Members’ responses provided great insight into members’ time and budget constraints, as well as how operational and strategic priorities are shifting in response to market dynamics.

In alignment with the goal of the Alliance to develop educational and networking opportunities that evolve with the needs and objectives of its members, this year the Alliance will bring stakeholders from Alliance member plans together through topic-specific collaboratives to guide programming development on an ongoing basis.

We hope each member health plan will engage in the 2017 programming in two ways:

  1. Please download the print 2017 event list, which provides the dates of the Value Visits already scheduled. The Alliance is finalizing the venues for these events now and will provide regular updates on the Alliance website member calendar.

In the meantime, review this list of events with your teams and save the dates on your calendars. Discuss which events you would like to attend and plan ahead so you can take advantage of these valuable learning opportunities. And remember, Alliance members never pay registration fees to attend our Value Visits. These programs are part of your membership benefits.

  2. Make sure your health plan is involved in the program planning! We encourage interested stakeholders to volunteer for one or more of our collaboratives. As a participant you will help the Alliance staff develop the right content, explored using the right venues of learning and on the timeline that best aligns with your operational and strategic priorities. Any individual can volunteer for one or more collaboratives. We encourage the leadership of every member health plan to ensure your organization’s interests are represented in each of the collaboratives by at least one team member. Ready to engage in program planning? Volunteer now.

FAQs

Q: How do I volunteer for a collaborative?
A: Complete the volunteer form. You can pick the topic areas that are of interest to you, and let us know how you would like to engage. The Alliance staff will connect with you to get started on program planning!

Q: I don’t see a value visit for compliance or risk management. Are you hosting that event in 2017?
A: The current event list includes the Value Visits we are in the process of confirming a venue. We expect to add more events in the next few months, which may include one- to two-day events on a variety of topics; however, our goal is to plan the remaining events in partnership with collaborative stakeholders.

Q: What is the commitment I’m making if I volunteer for a collaborative? I’m already pretty busy and worry I won’t have time to really help.
A: Involvement in a collaborative really means serving as a “sounding board” for Alliance staff members who are leading event development. Collaborative volunteers will be asked to engage in just a few short research calls over the course of the year, and to provide written feedback regarding the programming design – does the timeline, content and venues of learning meet your needs as a topic stakeholder? In total, volunteering should only take a few hours each quarter.

Q: You said the Alliance will be developing events on an ongoing basis, what does this mean exactly and will the Alliance still give us advance notice so we can plan our travel?
A: This means the Alliance is no longer developing programming in a locked 12-month calendar year and will instead approach key topics with ongoing learning and collaboration opportunities. Some collaborative stakeholders will request in-person events multiple times in a 12-month period, while others may feel that in-person meetings once every 18 months works well for that topic. The Alliance will schedule these events as prospectively as possible and will communicate regularly with our members to make sure you are provided ample advance notice.
