Spring Leadership Forum 2022

Event Date: 3/21/2022 - 3/24/2022

Event Overview

Transforming while performing—how Alliance member health plans are evolving to continue delivering on their missions

During the Spring 2022 Leadership Forum, Alliance member executives come together to dig into tough questions facing regional and provider-sponsored health plans.  The agenda offers important insights on the current policy and regulatory landscape, coupled with broader market intel and the long-term implications for healthcare. We’ll also dig into the challenges we all face when it comes to people and culture. Now more than ever, intentionally building and maintaining unstoppable cultures means the difference between success and failure.  We’ll hear from member health plans that are developing new models for growth – rather than growing in standard market share, new geography or new service lines, Alliance members are leveraging assets differently to generate revenue. We’ll also explore what it will take to achieve radical transparency in pharmacy, and how Alliance member plans can be a meaningful part of that transformation.

What you can expect

  1. Reconnect with your Alliance executive peer network during carefully crafted group experiences, such as the historic Grapevine wine/cider tour and dinner

  2. Engage with a lively panel of futurists and healthcare experts as they observe global forces at work, envision the future of healthcare, and debate how we must reshape our organizations to be a part of that future

  3. Swap war stories with your peers from health plan executive teams across the country and collect the best ideas for workforce management in a post-pandemic world

  4. Attend the Alliance Board of Directors meeting and participate in the discussion regarding latest developments in the HPA’s strategic planning process

  5. Learn how the best brands build unstoppable cultures so that they can create and sustain organizations of enduring greatness

COVID Protocols

What to expect: Health and Safety Protocols

The Health Plan Alliance’s hallmark is the unique space we provide for our members and partners to come together and meaningfully connect around the challenges and opportunities your organizations navigate every day. The health and safety of every attendee is our top priority and we are implementing health and safety protocols for our in-person events aimed at protecting all participants.

These protocols will be updated in response to ongoing guidance from CDC and local health authorities. If you have attended Alliance in-person meetings before, know this experience will be different in many ways – but also rest assured that we remain dedicated to creating unique opportunities to connect, learn and share with your colleagues from across the country.

Presentation: The policy and regulatory landscape Provider-sponsored and Regional health plans must navigate
The sweeping policy changes enacted during the final months of President Trump's administration, plus the expansive list of priorities President Biden has named for healthcare at the start of his first term all spell big changes for Alliance members and their partners. We've been slogging through much of it already... interoperability, price transparency, No Surprises...and we've responded to other market-shaking initiatives, such as the SEP for ACA plans and the ongoing pressure to continue the Medicaid expansion. In this session, policy and regulatory experts engage Alliance leaders in a discussion in which we take a step back and examine the broader landscape within which we're operating.

Presentation: Executive Panel: An exploration of new models Alliance leaders are embracing to deliver on their organizations' missions
Health Plan Alliance members are increasingly thinking outside of the box in terms of how we grow, and how we accomplish our mission to improve health outcomes for the populations we serve. Rather than growing in standard market share, new geography, or new service lines, Alliance plans are more and more looking at ways to utilize our assets to generate revenue. Engage with this panel of executives as we discuss the findings of a recent field study that identified methods of non-traditional growth in our membership. Together we'll dig into what our plans are doing, what's working, and what's not working.

Presentation: Welcome! Alliance update and look ahead
We're delighted to welcome Alliance members back for our first Value Visit in 2 years. In the kick-off session Alliance president Joe Lastinger takes a moment to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our members, who have continued delivering on their missions in the face of tremendous adversity. Joe will also update you on the Alliance's work in recent months, and he will share what has our team energized as we look to the road ahead.

Presentation: Executive Panel: Attracting, retaining, engaging, and developing your workforce in a post-pandemic world
Alliance member health plan leaders have been testing and rolling out new ideas, both big and small, to support their teams throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. From accommodating a virtual a/or hybrid workforce to introducing new employee benefits and professional development opportunities, leaders are thinking differently about how they create an environment within which their employees can do their most vibrant work. In this session Alliance members share their best and brightest concepts so that we all benefit from each other's learnings and efforts.

Presentation: Beyond Buzzwords: What will it take to achieve radical transparency in pharmacy?
Currently, nearly 80 percent of prescriptions in the U.S. are managed by three PBMs: CVS Caremark, Express Scripts and OptumRx. Transparency is the buzz word of the day, but many believe it is going to take something radical in the pharmacy space to make the movement real and ensure low-cost drugs for consumers. Mark Cuban's new generic drug company's leadership believes they can fundamentally change the way pharmacies operate and challenge the current PBM structures led by a few. Launched in January 2021, this organization decided the only way to get drugs to the people who need them is to build a parallel supply chain where we have control of all the intermediary players and ensure the same level of transparency at every level." Dr. Alex Oshmyansky says the vision is no middlemen, no rebates only available to insurance companies. Everybody gets the same low price for every drug we make. In this session, they describe how they're starting small, building on successes, and their vision
