Spring Leadership Forum 2024

Event Date: 3/25/2024 - 3/28/2024

Event Overview

The strategic fundamentals regional payers must operationalize to survive and thrive

The 2024 Spring Leadership Forum takes the very best of the groundbreaking 2023 Fall Forum to the next level. Last October we focused on the major market actors, their motivations and challenges, and their trajectories. This Spring, top health plan executives convene in Dallas to dig into the implications of the market landscape—What strategic imperatives face health plan leaders in 2024 and beyond and how do we close the gap when it comes to execution? This agenda focuses on critical fundamentals for regional payer success in 2024 and beyond.

Meeting highlights

  • Competing effectively with “experience” as our core differentiator – how can regional payers maintain our edge when nationals are rapidly developing new capabilities and buying new relationships with more vertical integration?

  • Across the country, HPA member plans are investing heavily in call center capabilities, up to and including investments in Artificial Intelligence to support employee efficiency and accuracy. What will be the call center of the future?

  • Every provider-aligned health plan is feeling the pressure to get even closer to our provider owners and partners. How can we break down barriers faster and with lasting impact?

  • HPA member plans share a critical bragging point: Very high employee engagement and satisfaction. We invest a great deal into our organizational cultures. How do we leverage that investment to empower high performing teams? Successfully translating strategy to execution means we can’t rely on individual heroes – accountability and alignment must be strong at every level of the organization.

  • Networks … designing them, building and optimizing them, managing contract risk, overcoming new credentialing challenges, and executing smart strategies when it comes to wraps and more … is there a different approach to untangling this Gordian knot?

Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P) and Part D Advance Notice Implications

Beginning in 2025, the Inflation Reduction Act requires all Medicare prescription drug plans (Part D plans) to offer enrollees the option of paying out-of-pocket prescription drug costs through capped monthly installment payments instead of paying all at once at the pharmacy. If your health plan is not adequately prepared, these changes will have a devastating effect on your financial performance.

Alex will share financial models and projections specifically related to the M3P and the transition from the existing Coverage Gap Discount Program to the newly introduced Part D Manufacturer Discount Program. Gain a deeper understanding of the implications for reimbursement mechanisms, cost-sharing arrangements, and negotiations with pharmaceutical manufacturers. Alex will also share insights into the strategies national carriers are employing to proactively prepare and recommended strategies for regional payer readiness including ways to manage financial risk, optimize formulary design, and enhance pharmacy network management.
